South Luangwa, Zambia
18/11/10Zambia is in my view the best country in Africa for walking safaris - all the pioneers started here, in South Luangwa.
The park is absolutely superb for leopard. The birdlife is really good too - a highlight being the carmine bee-eaters that nest by the hundreds in the river bank.
As in most of Southern Africa, the end of the dry season (September-November) is the best time: although it can be quite hot, it is peak sightings season: water is scarce and animals concentrate in waterholes. January to APril is the rainy season, and many lodges close (some roads become impassable) but is the best season for birding.
