Male elephant and Kilimanjaro
Amboseli is another great nature space in Kenya. Close to the Masai Mara, and less known than the Mara, it has some of the largest herds of elephants of Southern Africa, probably only exceeded by Botswana.

It has something else that makes it quite unique: it is from Amboseli that you can get the best views of the great Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain of Africa. In fact, most probably every single image that you see of "elephant and Kilimanjaro" has been taken in Amboseli.

Best time to visit: I went in August, as this is the best time to visit the Masai Mara (when you have better chances to see the famous wildebeest crossings during the Migration). However, being the end if summer, it was dry and dusty, and at the end of the day there was a lot of dust in the air and the Kilimanjaro was barely visible.

It it wouldn't be that the Mara is much better in summer, surely Amboseli is best visited in winter, when it will be much cooler and greener. Also surely the snow cap in the Kili will look bigger.
